Education & Experience

Heather A. Vaughan obtained her Master of Arts in Visual Culture; Costume Studies from New York University in 2004. She is currently an independent scholar focused on American and European clothing, shoes, and accessories of the 20th century. She has worked as a guest curator, author, lecturer, researcher and historian. Over the last five years, she has worked closely with such institutions as:

 

·         Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, de Young Museum (San Francisco)

·         Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York)

·         Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York)

·         Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Los Angeles)

·         Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (Los Angeles)

·         Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles)

·         Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix)

 

Vaughan has been a member of the Costume Society of America for five years and currently serves as an officer on the Western Region Board of Directors. She regularly presents her research at academic conferences and has had her work published in journals, books, and text for costume exhibitions.

 

Through a variety of experiences, Vaughan has gained valuable knowledge of standard museum procedures for care of collections, object research, cataloging and documentation, exhibition design, exhibition installation, as well as public and academic programming.
